Details, formula, and sources
Sticks and boards from stock length, and the support count that actually matters - brackets at each end and every 32 in, two tiers on double-hang, one under every linen shelf. A 6-ft single + 4-ft double + 3-ft linen closet takes 14 ft of rod, 22 ft of shelf, and 22 supports - the middle bracket is what keeps a loaded 6-ft rod from smiling. Flags runs longer than stock (splice lands AT a support).
rod = single + 2 x double; shelf = single + double + linen x count; supports per run = ceil(run/spacing) + 1 (two tiers on double-hang, one per linen shelf); sticks/boards = ceil(LF/stock); a run longer than stock flags a splice-at-support.
Closet takeoff arithmetic - no standard claimed; hang heights are named as common practice, not code.
