Details, formula, and sources

ScopeA steel fastener in a copper plate corrodes 2.5 in a year; the reverse is immeasurable -- a million times less. A small cathode is safe, a small anode is not.

Formula or tablegalvanic current = cathodic current density x cathode area; anode current density = that current / anode area; penetration = anode density x electrochemical equivalent / metal density.

Source and editionPotentials measured in the actual service electrolyte; published galvanic series and the materials engineer govern.

Free accessPublic electrochemistry; galvanic series are widely published.

What governsEstimate. AHJ and licensed professional govern.
