Pool Total Alkalinity Adjustment
Sodium bicarbonate to raise or muriatic acid to lower total alkalinity, by pool volume and the ppm change.
Example
You enter
- Pool volume (gal) 20000
- Current TA (ppm) 60
- Target TA (ppm) 100
You get
- Change +40 ppm
- Bicarb (lb) 12
Details, formula, and sources
The buffer a tech sets before pH. A starting dose to add in portions and retest.
Raise: ~1.5 lb sodium bicarbonate per 10,000 gal per 10 ppm; lower: ~25 fl oz of 31.45% (20 Baume) muriatic acid per 10,000 gal per 10 ppm.
