The delivered ultraviolet dose (intensity x exposure time, mW.s/cm^2 = mJ/cm^2) checked against a validated target (default 40 mJ/cm^2). A short dose points to an aged lamp, a fouled sleeve, or low UV transmittance. USEPA UV Disinfection Guidance; the validated reactor dose and the state primacy agency govern compliance.
