Details, formula, and sources
an AMBULATORY compartment is required in addition to the wheelchair one where six or more compartments are provided OR where urinals and water closets total six or more fixtures. Four stalls and three urinals is seven fixtures and owes one, which is the case that gets missed because the stalls get counted and the urinals do not. The wheelchair compartment is 60 in wide and 56 in deep for a WALL HUNG water closet or 59 in for a FLOOR MOUNTED one, so a fixture substitution that moves no partition can fail the stall. And the ambulatory width is a WINDOW, 35 to 37 in: a 40 in stall is too WIDE to qualify, because the point is grab bars on both walls within reach.
wheelchair accessible compartment: width >= 60 in; depth >= 56 in for a wall hung water closet or >= 59 in for a floor mounted one. Ambulatory accessible compartment: depth >= 60 in and 35 in <= width <= 37 in. An ambulatory compartment is required in addition where compartments >= 6 OR (urinals + water closets) >= 6.
