Details, formula, and sources

ScopeThe worked 310 gal tank fills 19 half barrels and loses 15.5 gal, 5.0% of the batch. The 4.74 gal remainder is 31% of the loss and 0.42 gal short of the smallest package the brewery owns.

Formula or tablepackaged = V x (1 - transfer) x (1 - fill); whole packages = floor(packaged / size); remainder = packaged - whole x size.

Source and editionYield bookkeeping; a half barrel is 15.5 gal and a sixth barrel 5.16 gal. The brewery's own packaging records govern.
