Sling Angle Load Multiplier
Tension per leg from load, configuration, and included angle.
Example
You enter
- Load (lb) 4000
- Sling configuration vertical
- Legs 2
You get
- Tension per leg 2000 lb
- Choker factor 1
Details, formula, and sources
Per-leg tension L = W / (n × cos(θ/2)) for basket / bridle slings at included (apex) angle θ (tension is W/n with legs vertical and diverges as the legs open toward horizontal); vertical L = W / n; choker reduction factor 0.75 applied per ASME B30.9.
ASME B30.9 (Slings) by name and section.
ASME B30.9 licensed; principles free at OSHA 29 CFR 1910.184 (free at ecfr.gov) and at major manufacturer (Crosby, Lift-It) technical pages.
